These backdraft dampers are designed to regulate airflow in ventilation systems by preventing reverse air movement when fans are off. The unit comprises two dampers with an 8 in. (200 mm) diameter, constructed from galvanized steel with aluminum flap leaves for lightweight operation. Dimensions are measured manually, so minor variances of 1–3 mm may occur. The dampers install by sliding into the duct until fully seated, with the spring positioned horizontally when the flap is installed horizontally to ensure reliable opening and closing in both horizontal and vertical orientations. They are suitable for ducts that are flexible or non flexible, but not compatible with plastic ducts due to size differences. The assembly functions to reduce backflow and recirculation, helping to maintain directional airflow in systems such as air conditioning, exhausts, range hoods, and other residential, commercial, or industrial applications. When selecting a location, consider the lip dimensions and the absence of obstructions that could prevent the flap from operating freely. These dampers are intended for use where a simple, passive backflow control is appropriate and where regular access for inspection is possible. Care should be taken to confirm compatibility with existing duct lip profiles and to avoid interference with other components during retrofits.
